Hahn discovered the central star of the Ring Nebula, M57 in 1800.

He died on October 9, 1805 in Remplin, Mecklenburg, Germany at age 63.

Friedrich von Hahn was honored by the naming of Moon Crater Hahn, at the NE limb of the Moon's disk.
